20 Plate Wort Chiller MKIII

Product detailed description
MKIII 20 Plate Heat Exchanger with 13mm Barbs, fully polished made from stainless steel and braised together with copper. The wort must run over 20 cooled copper plates in one direction, while cooling water flows the opposite direction. This efficient design ensures the hot wort is always in contact with a fresh supply of cool water – so no stirring or agitation is required! Makes the entire process of chilling wort quicker and more efficient than ever before.
- Gives the best cold break possible
- Cools wort to the ideal pitching temperature on the first pass
- Includes 4 nominally sized 1/2″ barb nipples.
- Use 3/8″ Silicone on the wort side and 7/16″ poly tubing on the cold water side
- High Grade Copper and stainless conduction
- Dimensions: 12.4″ L x 2.9″ W x 2″ H
We recommend vertical installation to minimize sediment buildup and facilitate easier cleaning. Plate heat exchangers cannot be cleaned mechanically as they are non-dismantlable. Regular chemical cleaning is necessary to prevent clogging. The chiller should be flushed in the opposite direction of normal operation. Use appropriate chemicals for cleaning based on the type of contamination:
-
Limescale: We recommend cleaning the exchanger with 5% phosphoric acid or 5% oxalic acid. These acids corrode copper, which the plates are brazed with. Therefore, neutralize with 1-2% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃).
-
Biological/organic deposits: Clean with 4% sodium hydroxide. Use a circulating pump with double flow in the reverse direction of normal operation. The cleaning temperature should not exceed 80°C, as higher temperatures increase corrosiveness and may damage the exchanger.
