Hydrometer
Code: KL04312Product detailed description
A hydrometer is essential for brewers, from beginners to professionals, providing precise and straightforward readings of a liquid’s density or specific gravity. Used to measure the gravity of wort, the hydrometer is suspended in a sample, ideally in a 250mL glass or 100mL plastic cylinder, to obtain accurate readings. Calculating alcohol content by volume (ABV) involves measuring both the Original Gravity (OG) and Final Gravity (FG) of your brew.
ABV Formula:
To calculate your % Alcohol By Volume
(OG - FG) x 131.25 = ABV %
Where OG is your Original Gravity e.g. 1.050 as shown by your hydrometer before you pitch your yeast.
and FG "Final Gravity" e.g. 1.010 as shown by the hydrometer after it has fermented.
= ( 1.050 - 1.010 ) * 131.25
= 5.25% ABV
