Taps
The dispensing tap is the final point in a draft beer system and plays a crucial role in controlling the flow of beer into your glass or mug. Dispensing taps come in a variety of styles, each suited to different types of beer. When selecting a tap for your draft beer system, consider the beer style you’ll be serving.
There are four main types of dispensing taps:
- US Standard Tap – This is the most common type of tap in North America, ideal for dispensing a wide variety of beers, including American lagers and ales.
- European Tap – Different from the US standard, this tap features a longer and narrower spout, reducing the foam head during pouring.
- Stout Tap – Specifically designed for nitrogen-based beers, this tap has a smaller opening that allows for a slower pour, creating a smoother and creamier beer.
- Side-pour Tap - Unlike vertical taps, which have a plunger valve, side-pour taps are constructed around a ball valve.
Other options include the Picnic Tap Assembly for outdoor events and the Pluto Gun, a handheld beer dispensing device that's an upgrade from the traditional plastic picnic tap.
